This rare 1953 STC 300MT magneto telephone has been thoughtfully converted into a dimmable table lamp, offering a unique blend of mid-century Australian design and modern functionality.

Crafted from Bakelite, the iconic silhouette retains its original charm while now serving as a conversation-starting light piece - perfect for those who appreciate vintage utility with a twist.

Manufactured in Sydney by Standard Telephones and Cables (STC), this model represents a key moment in Australia’s telecommunications history. STC was established in 1926 by ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph) and quickly became a local leader in the field. In the post-war years, STC was instrumental in developing self-contained magneto telephones for rural use, eliminating the need for separate power sources.

The 300MT series, introduced in 1948 and based on an Ericsson design, was refined locally by STC and AWA to better suit Australian conditions. By 1958, later versions phased out features like the original drawer front, but this 1953 model still holds those early-era design details.

Complete with verified date stamps and service tags, it’s a true piece of industrial history - now with an ambient glow!
