A beautiful example of turn-of-the-century English ceramic artistry, this antique Doulton Burslem vase dates to around 1900 and showcases finely hand-painted blossom decoration in the celebrated Flow Blue style.

The vase features a graceful baluster body adorned with rich cobalt-blue floral motifs, each enhanced by hand-applied gilt detailing. The characteristic soft diffusion of the blue pigment creates the dreamlike effect for which Flow Blue ceramics are renowned, while the intricate gilded outlines and flowing botanical forms reflect the influence of the Art Nouveau movement at the height of its popularity.

Twin loop handles rise elegantly to a flared neck, creating a balanced and highly decorative silhouette. A period metal-mounted rim provides both visual interest and practical protection, complementing the vase's refined form. Measuring approximately 21cm high, it is a versatile cabinet-sized piece with exceptional display presence.

Produced at the renowned Doulton Burslem works in Staffordshire, England, the vase bears the Doulton Burslem crown mark and registration number, placing its manufacture during the company's highly regarded Burslem period. Collectors often seek out Doulton Burslem pieces for their artistic quality and craftsmanship, which pre-date the company's later Royal Doulton branding.

Unlike many Flow Blue wares that utilised transfer decoration, this example features hand-painted floral artwork, giving the piece a greater sense of individuality and artistic character. The combination of hand-painted decoration, flowing cobalt tones, gilt embellishment and elegant form makes it a particularly attractive example of antique English decorative pottery.
