This antique slag glass lamp captures the romance of the early 20th century, with its softly glowing marbled shade and intricate Art Nouveau metalwork.

The dome shade is crafted from cream-toned slag glass, accented with flowing cast-metal overlays in a floral and scroll design.

Slag glass takes its name from the byproducts of metal smelting (“slag”), which were once used in its creation. When metal oxides are added to molten glass, the result is a beautiful marbled effect with natural swirls and veining. No two pieces are ever quite the same, giving each lamp a unique character.

These lamps became especially popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when ornate cast-metal frames paired with richly colored slag glass to create glowing, jewel-like effects.

This example retains its original pull-chain switch, a charming detail prized by collectors. One panel shows a carefully repaired crack, blending into the glass’s natural marbling and adding to its story without distracting from its beauty.

The cast-metal base is heavily decorated with scrolling motifs and a flared foot, giving the lamp both stability and presence. When lit, the slag glass comes alive with a warm, inviting glow - a perfect marriage of function and artistry.
