From fine oak to bold plastic, Marc Newson's Coast Chair has redefined modern seating with style and versatility.
The Coast Chair, first crafted by Australian designer Marc Newson for London's Coast restaurant in 1995, was initially made from oak in a small Italian factory. Its smooth, sculptural lines reflect Newson's signature style, combining functionality with organic elegance.
In 2002, Newson reimagined the chair in moulded plastic for Magis, adding modern versatility and durability. The updated version features cushions upholstered in Kvadrat Tonus fabric, merging comfort with Newson's minimalist aesthetics - showcasing his ability to blend timeless design with innovative materials.
Very comfortable, stylish - and a huge pop of colour!
Price is for the four chairs.
Note: One chair alone sells for approx. $6000 on the second hand market.
Measurements
80cm H x 48cm W x 53cm D.
Condition
Very good. One chair has a crack near the stem of the plastic. Another has some plastic missing from the back area of the seat that extends to a crack underneath. Some very minor thinning of fabric. Does not affect their function at all.
