A rare and early example of English Majolica pottery, this hand-glazed jug features a sculptural swan gracefully curving over the rim to form the handle.
The body is richly glazed in tones of amber, green, and soft turquoise, with fine naturalistic feather detail and beautiful surface craquelure consistent with age.
Likely produced in Staffordshire in the late 19th century, this piece captures the Victorian fascination with nature and form, where everyday wares were reimagined as decorative art. The underside bears an impressed maker’s mark with a number, suggesting it may have been officially patented in its time - adding to its provenance and value. This mark is partially worn from time, lending further authenticity to its age.
A charming and collectible piece of Majolica pottery that adds warmth and character to any interior.
