Swedish Scandinavian Rattan Lounge Chair & Ottoman Set - c.1960s

A beautifully sculptural Scandinavian rattan lounge set comprising an armchair and matching oval ottoman, sourced in Sweden.

Dating to about the 1960s, this set reflects the Nordic “soft modernist” movement - where clean modernist lines were paired with warm natural materials. The hand-woven rattan frames are elevated on slender red-painted steel legs, giving the pieces a light, floating appearance while maintaining excellent structural support.

The armchair features a gently curved backrest and integrated arms that are surprisingly comfortable, while the rare matching oval ottoman mirrors the woven construction and can function as either a footrest or a low occasional table.

The contrast between the honey-toned natural rattan and the fine red metal legs creates a relaxed yet architectural presence, allowing the set to sit beautifully within modern interiors, coastal homes, mid-century spaces or layered eclectic rooms.

The rattan is strong and intact. One small piece of rattan has come away, as per photograph. Light age-appropriate wear is present, consistent with careful use over time.
