A striking vintage ceramic owl dating from the 1970s, designed as an umbrella stand but equally beautiful used as a floor vase or decorative statement piece.
Finished in a rich chestnut-brown glaze, the owl features deeply moulded feather detailing, oversized expressive eyes, and contrasting cream accents to the eyes, beak and feet. Its substantial scale and sculptural form give it a strong visual presence, making it far more than a functional storage piece.
Originally intended as an umbrella or walking stick stand, this versatile vessel is perfect for displaying dried foliage, decorative branches, pampas grass, or seasonal arrangements. Whether styled in an entryway, living room, sunroom, or covered outdoor space, it adds warmth, personality and a touch of nostalgic charm.
The intricate feather patterning and glossy glaze are characteristic of the nature-inspired decorative ceramics that became popular throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Unmarked to the underside, the piece is likely European or Australian in origin.
